About Speech&MoreSpeech&More is a research project at ftw., the Telecommunications Research Center Vienna (in German, "Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien").Through ftw., Speech&More is supported by the Kplus program of the Austrian federal government. Kplus is a research policy initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between Austrian universities and industry, and thereby increasing the competitiveness of the Austrian economy in technology. Like the other projects at ftw., Speech&More receives some of its funding from Kplus, but contingent on also attracting sufficient interest and funding from private industry. Companies participate in the Speech&More project to enable application-oriented research that is of direct use to them, either through research findings or through deliverables like the Speechdat-AT database. The participating companies control which results of the research in Speech&More reach the public domain. Our partner companies participate also in order to build in-house expertise in speech technology through the involvement of their staff in Speech&More research activities, usually on a part-time basis. In addition, participating companies can define the contents and directions of the research in the project, which is often a very cost-effective way to investigate their own specific research questions. By participating in Speech&More, a company gains access to a dynamic team of researchers with a broad range of experiences in language and speech technology, and it benefits from a funding structure that offers both, multi-party cost sharing and support from public research budgets. |
